SeaVees x Alimo

Posted by Mia Leah on

Woahhhh...what a cool project. So stoked to have joined forces with Seavees on this custom pair of hand-painted SeaChange Legend sneakers. When SeaVees approached me for the collaboration I was so stoked. We are lucky enough to work with the same non-profit Sea Trees so when the convo started, it just made sense. Same ethos, same mindset, same rad.

More about my design inspiration and giveaway contest below.

I got inspired by the old-school horse zoetrope animation wheel (when you spin it, you can see how a horse gallops). In relation to a shoe, when rotated, it ends at the same place you started. This concept got me thinking of how as surfers we go in a circular path while in the ocean. We surf > observe > paddle > wait, then repeat. I wanted to paint a shoe that when rotated started and ended in the same place. While both shoes are similar, they have different character sets but in the end, gallop in the same way.

Along with the animation concept, I wanted to portray my process in a similar fashion. So the user (you) can get a feeling of how I gallop from start to finish.”

About the shoe:
SeaChange is Seavees first almost completely recycled collection. Every shoe in the line features recycled and eco-friendly components from recycled cotton uppers to post-consumer recycled plastic laces to recycled rubber outsoles. To take our commitment to the environment a step further, we've also partnered with Sea Trees and together we are turning the tide on climate change by regenerating one foot of kelp forest for every pair of shoes sold from the SeaChange collection.

We’ll be giving away this pair of men’s size 8.5 sneakers on 5/26 - keep an eye out to enter to win and set your alarms baby!
